The jewel in the crown among the scores of kasbahs (fortified residences) to be found in the south of Morocco is located 30 kilometres from Ouarzazate. On the edge of the Sahara desert, the adobe-built houses of Ait Ben Haddou’s impressive ksar (Ait Benhaddou was born in the 7th century and fortified in the 11th) stand at the foot of a cliff, and evoke a sense of having traveled back in time.
