Description
Generalife water gardens in Alhambra, Spain. Landscape crop.
Partial view of the main court of the Generalife, the Water-Garden Courtyard. The Generalife palace and Gardens (Generalife means "Architect's Garden") was the summer palace and country estate of the Nasrid rulers of the Emirate of Granada. It was built around 1290 as an adition to the Alhambra complex outside its walls, occupying the adjoining hill.
A place of breathtaking beauty, preserved by the wisdom of a Sultan who was later labelled a coward for surrendering the fortress before it was utterly destroyed in a fight he could not possibly win. I for one am grateful.
