Description
Brown Praying Mantis on a dry flower.
My kid found this mantis downtown and took it home before somebody stepped on it. We shot some pics and released it in the garden. We had to come to the rescue once again the following morning because my cat had found it and was playing with it as cats will. I hope its doing well now...
Mantis are amazing predators of undeserved foul fame. I have always admired the perfection and efficiency of these creatures and how tame they are if properly treated. I used to keep one on a small fish-tank when I was a kid and feed it insects.
They are fast and voracious and part of their black fame comes from the fact that the female eats the male most of the times after mating. What people do not know is that laying the eggs costs the female her life too. Both parents give their lives to bring on the following generation.
