Description
Carved Ottoman door in Balat District, Istanbul, Turkey.
An old carved door recycled into a rusty metal-framed-front of a one-floor closed store.
This amazingly beautiful old door, freely used in an unidentified store in semi-abandoned state could be a good icon of what you can expect outside the more touristic areas of Istanbul. This feeling you get in these old Ottoman streets is, paradoxically, fairly Roman.
No strange coincidence, since both cities have way too much heritage to protect, to maintain and to live with, so it just gets naturally embedded into modern daily life.
And I find I love it.
