Description
The Comb of the Wind by Chillida, San Sebastian, Spain.
The Comb of the Wind is a collection of three sculptures by Eduardo Chillida arranged as an architectural work by Luis Peña Ganchegui at the western end of La Concha Bay in San Sebastian, Basque Country. For both, this is one of their most important and well known works.
This amphibious creative complex is formed by a granite cobble-stoned structure and the three monumental 10 ton abstract steel sculptures, embedded in natural rocks rising from the sea, that "comb" the wind. In stormy days when the sea is angry, water and air is forced into the breakwater and erupts in geysers from several holes on the cobble-stoned floor with a powerful sound. The Comb of the Winds is repaired every year because of the damages the sea causes.
