Description
Cynthiacetus skull.
Cynthiacetus is an extinct genus of basilosaurid, a carnivore early whale, that lived during the Upper Eocene, 40.4 to 33.9 million years ago. Specimens have been found in the south-eastern United States, Egypt and Peru.
The sharp serrated teeth and massive muscle insertions of its jaw, along with a long muscular tail, tell of a predator with a terrible bite, which probably hunted by launching a single attack at lightning speed, that caused fatal wounds.
Amazing creature.
