Description
Monument to Fernand Marche, a soldier of the Great War.
Fernand Marche (1888-1916) was a runner in the French 130th Infantry Regiment. On the 1st of August of 1916 he volunteered to carry a message to his colonel and was killed on the way.The next runner found his body, with his hand in the air and his fingers grasping the message. The messenger took the note and reached the colonel. A memorial to Private Marche was erected in 1925 in Bully-les-Mines, in front of the mining company in which he had worked before the war.
The sculpture was made in 1923 by Armand Roblot.
