Description
Florence - Pyrrhus and Polyxena, Pio Fedi.
This is a view of the impressive sculpture known as the Rape of Polyxena, in the Loggia dei Lanzi, sculpted by Pio Fedi in 1865. The scene is hard, with Pyrrhus, the ruthless son of Achilles, takes Polyxena away from her loved ones, her defender, dead underfoot, her mother, hopelessly trying to hold on to her while Pyrrhus rises his arm for a final strike.
The way they look at each other is what impressed me most and the reason why I shot the sculpture from this point. The hopeless begging mother, the remorseless warrior, the young girl surrendered. Impressive.
What can I say about Florence that has not been already said... If you care for beauty at all, you should visit Florence at least once.
