Description
Engraved Wolf, Font-de-Gaume cave, France. Digital oil painting.
Detail of a Wolf, as Abbot Breuil traced to paper from the engraved remains of the original in 1910. Regretfully, the painting on the cave wall is in all but gone and only some of the engraved parts and some of the polychromy have survived to these days.
The famous cave in Les Eyzies is one of the first ever found and its walls are rich in paintings from the Magdalenian era. Unfortunately, many of the fine images have been all but lost due to both natural and human influence. The ones remaining, however, are quite unique in their beauty.
Located in the heart of the Dordogne, this is one of the few caves that can still be visited.
