Description
L'Hermione frigate rigging.
The labyrinthic array of ropes, lines and stays that held the masts and sails in place didn't prevent the sailors from having to climb up the ratlines holding on to the shrouds.
The Hermione is a French 32-gun Concorde-class frigate fitted for 12-pounder guns, completed in Rochefort by the Asselin organisation in 2014. She is a reproduction of the 1779 Hermione, known for ferrying General La Fayette to the United States in 1780 when he rejoined the American side in the American Revolutionary War.
Ever since I read the Aubrey-Maturin saga for the first time, I fell in love with tall ships. Getting close to this beauty was a nice consolation after missing the visit of HMS Surprise to my seas.
