Description
Jesus Christ on a WWI Shrapnel Cross.
During the First World War, soldiers spent endless periods of time in the trenches, awaiting orders, listening for artillery attacks, trying to keep their feet dry and their heads low to avoid snipers. Each one tried to take his mind away the best way he could. Some played cards, some painted or wrote, and some produced crafts of all kinds.
This is a cross made from pieces of artillery shrapnel and a figure of Christ salvaged from another cross. It was built in Verdun, where some of the most crude fighting and bombings took place. I hope it gave someone some confort.
