Description
Jupiter and Sons. Enhanced.
Photo Composition with Jupiter and the Galilean moons in order of increasing distance from Jupiter, Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.
The Galilean Moons are the four moons Galileo Galilei discovered in 1609 with his 20× magnification telescope. These were the first objects found to orbit a body that was neither Earth nor the Sun. We know of another 75 moons in Jupiter.
The image represents the true scale between the moons but not with the moons and Jupiter, which is many factors more massive than it shows.
Original images by NASA/JPL/DLR, ESA, and M. Kornmesser. Further image enhancements and post processing by Weston Westmoreland.
