Artist's Description
Michelangelo's Pieta in St Peter's Basilica, Vatican City.
A close view of Michelangelo's probably most revered sculpture, certainly the most moving and my personal favorite. There is so much tenderness and sadness flowing from this statue. Michelangelo shows us the Virgin Mary suffering quietly and in silence. While her face remains serene, only her hand betrays her emotions by saying two things at the same time, there you have him, sacrificed for your sins, and how could this possibly happen?
Michelangelo was 22 when he carved La Pieta between 1498–1499. He was nobody before it, and a genius after. Everything that came later was because he was given the chance to carve La Pieta. It is the only piece Michelangelo ever signed, as you can see in Mary's band if you zoom in the picture. The theme is of Northern origin, popular by that time in France but not yet in Italy. Michelangelo's interpretation of the Pieta was unprecedented in Italian sculpture.

About Weston Westmoreland
Hi there, Born in '72 and shooting pictures since '83, I particularly enjoy creating wide panoramic compositions, HDRs, HDR Panoramas... But not just... Here you will find landscapes and cityscapes, ancient ruins and modern buildings, moons and seas, planes and boats, guns and flowers, animals and machines, forests and deserts, vanguard and prehistory, digital and film, color and black & white, graves and newborns, temples, trenches, palaces, castles, tanks, churches, bunkers... However, they have some things in common: they are meaningful images, I believe them all to be beautiful, and they are for the most part unique. Come in and judge for yourself. W. W. WE CAN CUSTOMIZE ANY PICTURE TO YOUR PERSONAL LIKING AND MAKE IT...
