Description
This is one of the propellers of the P-38 in which Antoine de Saint-Exupery disappeared in the Mediterranean sea during the Second World War, now in the aquarium in Cherbourg.
Antoine Marie Jean-Baptiste Roger, comte de Saint Exupéry (29 June 1900 – 31 July 1944) was a French aristocrat, writer, poet, and pioneering aviator. He won several of France's highest literary awards and the U.S. National Book Award. He is best remembered for his magic illustrated novel "The Little Prince" (Le Petit Prince).
Saint-Exupéry was a pilot before World War II. At the outbreak of war, he joined the French Air Force. He disappeared over the Mediterranean on his last assigned reconnaissance mission in July 1944, and is believed to have died at that time.
Saint Exupery left lots of wonderful quotes and phrases. This is one of his most meaningful: I know but one freedom, and that is the freedom of the mind".
