Description
Little gecko.
This little gecko, or gekko, with a malformed hind paw offered us good company throughout a warm sunny summer.
Geckos are mostly peculiar creatures in so many aspects that considering them just another kind of lizard is just too simplistic.
Most geckos have no eyelids and thus cannot blink, but they can lick their eyes to keep them clean and moist.
Geckos are also unique among lizards in their vocalizations, which differ from species to species. They use chirping or clicking sounds, in their social interactions and sometimes when stressed, from which their name is an onomatopoeic derivative. There are about 1,500 different species worldwide.
Geckos are probably best known for their uncanny ability to hold on to smooth and vertical surfaces, and even cross indoor ceilings with ease. The mechanism by which they achieve this adherence is not clear but it might be of electrostatic nature.
Geckos usually make their home inside human habitations.and are often welcome, as they feed on moths, mosquitoes and other insects. Unlike most lizards, geckos are usually nocturnal.
Too peculiar to be considered just a little lizard, uh?
