Spectacular Hubble view of Messier's 100th object. M 100, is a grand design spiral galaxy (a type of spiral galaxy with prominent and well-defined arms).
M 100 is located about 55 million light-years away in the constellation of Coma Berenices. M-100 is about 167,000 light-years across and contains 1 trillion stars, roughly the size of the Milky Way. It is also a starburst galaxy (a galaxy undergoing an exceptionally high rate of star formation).
