Description
Montmartre in the twilight. Paris, France.
View of the Sacre Coeur across the Rue du Chevalier de la Barre at dusk. The slopes towards the Sacre Coeur are typically Parisien but the top of the hill of Montmartre (the mount of the martyr), preserves the original buildings and narrow streets of the little village that preexisted its annexation to Paris.
Montmartre is the bohemian heart of Paris, full of ateliers, art shops... and slopes. It was an independent village, the granary and vineyard of the City of Light, until the arrival of the industrial revolution.
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris is a minor basilica dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The second most visited monument in Paris, the basilica stands at the highest point in the city. It was consecrated in 1919.
As for Paris... what can one say about the City of Light that has not already been said...?
