Description
This is the picture of an actual working Panzer VI Tiger II Tank, shot in France. The background is a map of Normandy.
The Tiger II was a German heavy tank developed in 1944 and used in World War II. The official name was Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B. It is also known under the informal name Knigstiger (German for "Bengal tiger"), often mistranslated as King Tiger or Royal Tiger by Allied soldiers.
The Tiger II was the successor of the Tiger I, combining the latter's thick armor with the armor sloping used on the Panther. The tank weighed almost seventy tons, was protected by 100 to 180 mm (3.9 to 7.1 in) of armor to the front, and was armed with the a long barreled 88 mm gun.
The Tiger II was issued to heavy tank battalions of the Army and the SS, and was first used in combat during the Normandy campaign.
There is a black background version of this image.
