Description
I was telling one of my kids about the difference between bees and bumblebees and drew his attention to one that was foraging one of my lavenders. When I got closer I saw something was not quite right. True enough. A small brave crab spider of a wonderful pink and nacre color had captured it.
Crab spiders do not use webs, they are hunters that prey on insects that, like in this case, more than double their size.
I kept track of this little killer for almost a month in the same lavender bush. I had never seen a spider crab of these colors before, have seen none since.
