Detail of the statue of a fighting bull by the bullring of Ronda, Spain. Ronda is a city in the Spanish province of Málaga and one of the most beautiful cities in Andalusia.
The old city was built atop a vertical promontory that has been inhabited since before the Iron Age. Iberians, Romans, Visigoths, Muslims and Christians have occupied the place and extended the city westwards across the gorge by means of bridges, the latest of which spans the gorge at a height of 360 feet.
American artists Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles spent many summers in Ronda. Both wrote about Ronda's beauty and famous bullfighting traditions. Their accounts contributed to Ronda's popularity.
