Description
Rosina's Balcony at night, Seville.
No, it's not really Rosina's balcony, although the legend says it is. And it is easy to imagine Rosina’s balcony just as it is described in Beaumarchais’ The Barber of Seville. It was that balcony that Figaro advised the young Count to climb. Rosina's Balcony (el balcon de Rosina) can be found in the Barrio Santa Cruz, the former Jewish quarter of the medieval muslim city of Ixbilia.
Of medieval Muslim origin, Santa Cruz grows next to the Alcazar and the Cathedral and retains the narrow winding streets of its Moorish past dating back to the Almohade caliphate. Walking without a destination through the streets alleys and plazas on Santa Cruz is one of the delights Seville offers.
