Description
Shrine and Basilica of Loyola, Basque Country, Spain.
Front view of the Sanctuary of Loyola, which holds the birthplace of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, in Azpeitia, Basque Country.
Conceived as the Royal College of Loyola, the core of the religious complex is a large marble building that develops a golden color under the evening light. Its enormous proportions respond to its conception as a reliquary-building that contains the Holy House . In the central part of its main facade stands the circular basilica covered with the great spherical dome.
