Description
Inside Sehzade Mosque, Istanbul, Turkey.
Vertical panoramic view of Sehzade Mosque praying area, Mihrab and dome.
The Sehzade Mosque (Sehzade Camii) is an Ottoman imperial mosque built by Suleiman the Magnificent to honor his favorite son Şehzade (prince) Mehmed who died in 1543 at the age of 22.
This view from the south west shows the mosque behind the five turbes (mausoleums) in the gardens, with Sehzade Mehmed's to the right.
The temple was designed by the most prestigious architect in the history of the empire, Mimar Sinan, the Ottoman Michelangelo. The complex was Sinan's first important imperial commission and one of his most ambitious, even though it was designed early in his long career.
