Description
Alley in Santa Cruz quarter, Seville, Spain. Closer image.
The Calle Juderia, (jewish quarter street) is probably the most iconic alley in the Barrio Santa Cruz, the former Jewish quarter of the medieval muslim city of Ixbilia. This archway belongs to the zig-zagged entrance to the Alcazar of Seville from the Jewish quarter.
Of medieval Muslim origin, Santa Cruz grows next to the Alcazar and the Cathedral and retains the narrow winding streets of its Moorish past dating back to the Almohade caliphate. Walking without a destination through the streets alleys and plazas on Santa Cruz is one of the delights Seville offers.
