Sturmhaubitze 42 in snow camo.
The Sturmhaubitze 42, SdKfz 142/2 (StuH 42 for short) was a self-propelled assault gun used by the Wehrmacht (German Army) during World War II in both Eastern and Western fronts. The StuH 42 was created to replace the StuG III, deducted from infantry support for anti-tank warfare.
Starting from the StuG chasis, the StuH was developed in 1942 to carry a 105 mm howitzer and performed well as an infantry support weapon; However, it had very limited possibilities to destroy enemy battle tanks, as the power and efficiency of the howitzer was moderate and it had a relatively slow firing rate. The ammunition had to be loaded separately, first the bullet and then the cartridge with the propellant charge, which reduced the rate of fire to 3-5 rounds per minute. The maximum range on the battlefield was no further than 2,000 yards.
