The Süleymaniye Mosque Süleymaniye Camii, is an Ottoman imperial mosque. The temple was commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent and designed by the most prestigious architect in the history of the empire, Mimar Sinan, the Ottoman Michelangelo. Built in around 10 years, it was inaugurated in 1557. Suleymaniye is the second largest mosque in the city, the city's largest Ottoman-era mosque, and one of the best-known sights of Istanbul.History
The main dome is 174 feet high and has a diameter of 86.9 feet which is exactly half the height. At the time it was built, the dome was the highest in the Ottoman Empire, when measured from sea level, but still lower from its base and smaller in diameter than that of Hagia Sophia.
Located on the Third Hill of Istanbul, the views to the north and east from the gardens of Suleiman's mosque are pivileged. We can see the other two parts of Istanbul, the northern area across the Golden Horn and the Asian side, across the Bosporus
