Description
Capitals of the Temple of Saturn. Forum, Rome.
Detail of the Ionic capitals of the Temple of Saturn. This is the front right corner of the remaining frontispiece. We can also see the top of the Arch of Septimius Severus to the lower left and the roof of the Curia in the dark behind.
The Temple of Saturn stands at the foot of the Capitoline Hill at the western end of the Roman Forum. The original temple is believed to be from around 500 BC. The ruins we preserve today belong to the third rebuilding, after a fire in 283 AD.
