Description
The Lady of Brassenpouy.
Discovered in a cave at Brassempouy, France in 1892, the Venus of Brassenpouy, aka the Lady in the Hood (la Dame de Brassempouy, or Dame à la Capuche in French) was carved from a mammoth's ivory tusk. This tiny figure dates back 25,000 years and it is the oldest female (or male, for that matter) bust ever found and one of the earliest known realistic representations of a human face.
I just cannot help to think about the author, a person like any of us who would have another one in mind when carving this little beauty. Who were they? How did they live?
