Description
The Midwife, Pompeii.
Fresco painting of a nurse or midwife handing a baby to a woman. Only one hand of the baby remains, just enough to understand the sequence.
This fresco remains on a wall in Pompeii. The image is so washed out it does not draw much attention and I was unable to find anything about it so far. However, I find the composition and the details to be in many ways more modern and detailed than the standard in Pompei frescoes. The stance of the nurse or midwife and the detail and point of view of the woman behind her are just exquisite (you can click on the image).
I processed the image in order to resurface the original detail and tonality.
