Description
Detail of the Basilica y Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia (Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family), globally known as La Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudi.
Words are utterly insufficient to describe this building. The word building itself is demeaning by simplification. This is not just a building. This is one of the future seven wonders of the world. It only lacks age.
It is not only a masterly piece of design, and architecture, full of breakthrough concepts at the time it was designed, moreover it is the creation of a timeless talent, the respect for which is already enormous and can only grow.
There is no way a single visit can do justice to this monument to human creativity. It is just to overwhelming. And it is not even finished.
There is always a crowd swarming around it, so I normally visit this building at night, once the visits are over. The sight is just... well, I do not have the words :)
This image shows three levels of the complex. The top two belong to the Basilica itself and the lower one is part of the schools Gaudi built for the children of the workers that were building the temple. It is actually a separated building, but it blends perfectly with the main construction. The temple, of course, does not end there, it raises high into the night sky, but this area is still covered by scaffolding so I darkened it away.
