Bronze Door Plaques, Assur, Assyria
Bronze plaques for door plating from Assur. Shalmaneser III period (859 - 824 BC). Ancient Orient Museum, Istanbul.
Assur was the capital of the Old Assyrian Empire (2025–1750 BC), the Middle Assyrian Empire (1365–1050 BC), and for a time, of the Neo-Assyrian Empire (911–608 BC). The remains of the city lie on the western bank of the Tigris River, in what is now Iraq.
Occupation of the city itself continued for approximately 4,000 years, from c. 2600 BC to the mid-14th century AD, when the Mongol forces of Timur Khan massacred its population. The site is a World Heritage Site, having been added to that organisation's list of sites in danger in 2003 following the invasion of Iraq and as a result of a proposed dam which would flood some of the site. Assur lies 40 miles south of Nimrud and 60 miles south of Nineveh.

Hi there, Born in '72 and shooting pictures since '83, I particularly enjoy creating wide panoramic compositions, HDRs, HDR Panoramas... But not just... Here you will find landscapes and cityscapes, ancient ruins and modern buildings, moons and seas, planes and boats, guns and flowers, animals and machines, forests and deserts, vanguard and prehistory, digital and film, color and black & white, graves and newborns, temples, trenches, palaces, castles, tanks, churches, bunkers... However, they have some things in common: they are meaningful images, I believe them all to be beautiful, and they are for the most part unique. Come in and judge for yourself. W. W. WE CAN CUSTOMIZE ANY PICTURE TO YOUR PERSONAL LIKING AND MAKE IT...
