The Mihrab (prayer niche) seen through the central archway and colonnade of the 8th century Great Mosque (Mezquita Cathedral) in Cordoba, Andalusia, Spain.
There is nothing I can say about the Great Mosque of Cordoba that has not been already said unaccountable times in the last twelve hundred years. Besides, words don't cut the mustard when describing the unending manifestations of beauty you find within, and without, its walls. All I can do is try to show you through my pictures, shot to preserve detail and be displayed big, where you can see the tesserae in the mosaics.
Built between the 784 and 987 AD, this temple still preserves the exquisite finesse of the best artisans of the time, not only Islamic, but Christian, ancient Roman, Greek and Byzantine too.
