I have a little pond in my garden where ever since I was a kid we have grown tadpoles into toads, nymphs into dragonflies, newts, salamanders... Following the changes of all these amazing creatures inside that little ecosystem is part of our life routine for me and my kids, as spring turns into summer. I have found countless exuvia (the empty shell of a dragonfly nymph), but I had never caught one in the process of shedding it. Until this time.

Dragonflies undergo an incomplete metamorphosis with a series of nymphal stages from which the adult emerges. Eggs laid inside plant tissues take about a week to hatch into aquatic nymphs or naiads which moult between six and 15 times (depending on species) as they grow.
