Among all the painted mammoths, this one is my favorite for three reasons: First, they need to tell you there is a mammoth there, or you will miss it, drawn to the hand. Second, it is a simple black outline with a couple of traces to mark the tusks, but in it we find the head of a a finely proportioned mammoth in a three-quarter view. Even the eyes are hinted by the shade in two holes. And third, the addition of the hand itself.
The red negative hand was painted after the mammoth. This is a peculiar hand. The author placed her (these hands were most likely female) palm on the rock-face and then twisted it to the right.
