Description
Hercules Fighting Achelous Transformed into a Serpent, Louvre Musseum, Paris.
Bronze sculpture made by Francois-Joseph Bosio and Auguste Carbonneaux in 1824.
The subject was taken from Ovid's Metamorphoses: Achelous was the rival of Hercules for the sake of Deianira; during the fight, Achelous turned into a serpent but was defeated by Hercules.
Commissioned in bronze in 1822 from the plaster model of the Salon of 1814.
