Description
The Church of San Martín de Elines, 11th century, Spain. Vertical crop.
The Church of Saint Martin of Elines is a unique Romanesque temple because of its height and its tower, which are both peculiar attributes on their own. The tower was struck by lighting and had to be partially rebuilt, but otherwise, the building and its carvings remain in pretty good shape for a building 1000 years old.
The main entrance to the site is watched by a beautiful stone wayside cross. As many of these Spanish Romanesque jewels, this temple stands in a small village of less than 50 inhabitants in what used to be one of the arms of the Way of Saint Jaques.
