Description
Gothic Cathedral of Leon at night. Vintage version.
Santa María de la Regla Cathedral, also called The House of Light or the "Pulchra Leonina", is a Gothic construction masterpiece. The church has nearly 1,800 square meters of stained-glass windows, the great majority of them dating from the 13th-15th centuries, which is a rarity among medieval Gothic churches.
The Cathedral is situated in the medieval old town of León in north-western Spain. It was built on the site of previous Roman baths of the 2nd century which had been converted into a palace in the 10th century.
The name Leon comes from the Roman word Legion, for the origin of the city was a Roman Garrison. the remains of which lie under the cathedral and surroundings and can be visited.
