Description
Sculpture in sandstone of Jayavarman II, a 9th-century king of Cambodia, founder of the Khmer Empire, which ruled much of Southeast Asia over six centuries. Before Jayavarman II came to power, the country was not unified under one ruler.
His successors would build Angkor Wat and the thousand wonderful temples that surround it.
The Khmer took their religion from the Hindu and absorbed Hinduism first and then Buddhism, adapting them to their own ways and culture.
