Description
Bronze sculpture, of Khmer origin, of Goddess Uma.
Uma is the name of a Hindu goddess (Parvati) and also means "Mother", "Lady of the Mountains" and "tranquility".
The Khmer Empire was founded in the 9th century and lasted over 600 years. It ruled over much of Southeast Asia. The Khmer built Angkor Wat and the thousand wonderful temples that surround it and left many wonderful sculptures.
The Khmer culture took their religion from the Hindu and absorbed Hinduism first and Buddhism later, adapting both to their own ways and culture.
