Castrillo is a small medieval road village that grew around Saint Jaques Way. It was a good place to stop for the night in the journey both from east and south towards Finis-terrae, and the village thrived and adapted to this fact. The main street, a longish wide cobble-stoned avenue, is flanked by many facades like this one, with a big gate for the carriages and the animals and a second floor for the travelers.
These establishments are not only beautiful in their simplicity and functionality, but they speak of times long past when traveling was something of a totally different nature that entailed many risks, and when places like Castrillo where not only somewhere to spend the night. They were safe havens...
