Description
Spring in Inca City V, Mars, Enhanced.
Mars often offers beautiful and uncanny landscapes which work like abstract pictures. This is an enhanced version of a tiny spot in region called Inca City, part of the Angustus Labyrinthus, near the South pole.
The layer of seasonal ice has developed long cracks. Fans of dust emerge from these long linear cracks. Cracks form when large plates of ice have no easily ruptured weak spots to release the pressure from gas building up underneath. The ice simply cracks. We do not have any analogous processes occurring naturally on Earth: this is truly Martian.
